Michigan Sugar is a grower-owned cooperative that processes and packages locally-grown sugar, then sells it to customers across the United States.
We were tasked with producing an annual report that not only conveyed the company’s financial statements and major accomplishments, but also the stories of the farmers and plant workers who have a true passion for their work.
We traveled deep into Michigan Thumb to capture the cover photo of Ida and Ken Wadsworth. The Wadsworths are well-known Michigan Sugar cooperators that have farmed together since 1952.
It was a long, early drive, but we beat the sun and captured a sunrise shot of them standing in a sugarbeet field.
Annual reports are tough to design because they contain a lot (A LOT!) of financial information and legal disclosures, neither of which make for scintillating entertainment. We organized that content into a simple grid to make it easy to understand, then punctuated the piece with stories of Michigan Sugar employees that love their jobs.
