2017 Award Winners

For this year’s local American Advertising Awards (“ADDYs”), judges from the Flint and Chicago areas traveled to Midland to evaluate the best work created in the Great Lakes Bay Region. When the dust settled, we emerged with:

  • the Best of Show Award,
  • one of only three Judge’s Choice Awards,
  • five Gold ADDYs (most among all entrants),
  • and a total of ten winning entries (most among all agencies).

Vendor Profiles

for Tapped - Downtown Midland's Craft Beer Festival

To generate excitement about the second year of Midland’s craft beer festival, we shot profiles on three vendors that exemplified the event’s local, handcrafted ethos.

The biggest challenge was conveying each artisan’s voice while using common editing and camera techniques to make them feel like part of a cohesive series. The resulting videos are interesting to watch in isolation, but together paint a picture of Tapped as a festival that celebrates local craftsmanship in all its forms.

The Tapped Vendor Profiles hit the mark in every category. We were interested in each vendor’s backstory, even making notes to ourselves to visit them. The videos were beautifully shot and there were a lot of fine details in post-production that caught our eye, including a bubbling beer graphic and the typography. The videos piqued our curiosity about the event and each judge stated interest in attending next year.

Hidden

for Child & Family Services of Saginaw

The number one obstacle to mental health treatment is the stigma surrounding people who need help. So when Child & Family Services asked us to create a memorable video that encouraged people to seek out their services, we developed a concept around a powerful idea: Despite our best efforts to keep it hidden, we’re all struggling in our own way.

Highly creative, yet simple concept for what can be a very difficult subject matter. The use of multiple vignettes also allowed viewers to better understand many of the services available through Child & Family Services of Saginaw.

for Post & Associates

When she approached us about branding her new legal nurse consulting company, Nadine Post had a simple request: Please, develop a unique design that doesn’t look like every other legal firm on Earth.

Mission accomplished. We developed a logo and series of collateral materials that are both simple and striking while walking the line between modern design and timeless aesthetic principles.

Be a Big

for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region

As much as we’d love to take credit for this video, we can’t. The kids did most of the work; we just pointed the camera.

Unadorned and unfiltered, their messages are funny, sad, joyful, and, above all, inspirational. Big Brothers Big Sisters truly changes children’s lives.

Form & Void

for Aberro Creative

Some agencies hand out Christmas cards. But we were feeling ambitious.

So we brewed two one-of-a-kind beers and packaged them for our clients, vendors, and other friends. We handled the whole process from wire to wire, starting with brewing at Saugatuck Brewing Company and finishing by dipping the painted bottles in hot wax outside our office.

for The Temple Theatre

To help Downtown Saginaw’s most iconic venue reach a new generation, we completely overhauled TempleTheatre.com. The new site is easier to navigate, performs significantly better, and is much easier for the Temple staff to manage.

The Magic of Mobile Deposit

for Independent Bank

Tasked with explaining mobile deposit to the Independent Bank’s customers, we worked with F.P. Horak to create a video that blends custom illustration with delightful animation to bring a touch of whimsy to the normally buttoned-up banking industry.

for The Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance

When it was first launched, the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance’s website focused on describing the Alliance itself. But it was time for a change.

The new GreatLakesBay.com, they decided, should support the Alliance’s mission of bringing businesses and talent to the region. And that’s exactly what it does.

for The Midland Area Community Foundation

This Internet commercial ran in the month leading up to Midland’s biggest and most historic festival. It grabbed viewers’ attention with driving music, quick cuts, and an interesting visual style.

for Pinnacle Design

We teamed up with the Saginaw-based interior design firm to completely redesign their visual identity. Once the new logo was completed, we rebuilt their website to exemplify their elegant, professional, and modern brand.
